Awakening

I mentioned my funk earlier, but I wasn't completely honest in how bad it was. The girls and I only left the house once last week to buy groceries. I hardly showered. Hell, I hardly got out of bed. My house is now disgusting. We did play board games and watch movies quite a bit, and I did manage to do Jillian once with a few Gazelle workouts thrown in. I also ate pretty well since I didn't leave the house to grab some fast food, and I cooked all our meals. But now the kitchen is overflowing with dishes.

Today, though...today was much better. I showered yesterday, and we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner, so even that small outing made me feel better. I made myself continue that, and loaded up the kids and went to the gym this morning. Very few things lift my mood more than a good runner's high! I need to remember that, and force myself to get my butt up and MOVE when I get in these funks!

I walked for 15 minutes at increasing inclines, maxing out at a 9 since I wasn't on the good treadmill with the handles and that can go up to a 30 or so. I have a huge fear of falling off the treadmill, so I was scared to go any higher. After my warm-up walk, I put on my pretty new g-loves (along with my big-girl panties) and went into the weight room that was filled with guys who had the day off today. I was really surprised to find out how much I missed the weight room! My g-loves made me feel like a "real" lifter. :D

That's my "don't mess with me, boys" face. :)

After the weight room, I came back out the cardio room to find it PACKED already! I didn't think that would happen for a couple more days! Luckily, my YMCA has another room with cardio equipment and the  machines for the circuit training classes, so I hopped on the treadmill again and decided to run this time. I haven't run more than a mile or two since I ran 4 miles at the beginning of the month. And that was only one of what? 3 good runs? since my half in September! Today, I ran a 5k, and felt fantastic! No pain anywhere, outside of the usual just starting out soreness. I pushed harder than I should've right now, but I just wanted to GO! So much so that I was late picking up my kids from the childcare. Oops!

When I was done, I felt better than I have in awhile! I felt renewed. I could feel the funk leave my body as I sweat, and filled up on endorphins. I will not let myself slip again!

Woah! Runkeeper looks different!

To be sure I stick with it this coming year, I signed up for the 13 in 2013 challenge. 13 races next year! Mine will mostly be 5 and 10Ks, but I am planning on doing at least one other half (maybe 2). There will also be virtual races to do since races can get expensive. Deadline to sign up is today, so hurry and do it with me!

Now to clean my nasty-ass house. Anyone want to come and do that with me too? Please?

Random Bits

I just made a FB page for this blog, so please go "like" it. I've been hesitant to do so because I didn't want to be That Girl with herself and her mom as the only likes, so please show me some love? Thank you so much! You can find me here, or by clicking the Facebook icon at the top of my sidebar over there to the right.

I also created a Pinterest for the blog, so please follow me there as well while you're at it. :) Again, you can find the link here, or by clicking the Pinterest icon in the sidebar.

Third, you should go check out my friend, Alisha's blog! I gave her blog a new look yesterday, so go see. I don't really know what I'm doing with that stuff, but it's fun to learn. If you don't follow her already, you should. Her story is amazing, and she's one of the strongest people I know! Be prepared to have Kleenex handy when reading her story.

Finally, please don't forget to vote. Thanks to all your support, I somehow cracked the top 10! I am so thankful to all of you!

Blah

I have been in such a funk since we got home from our trip. I haven't wanted to do a damn thing but lay around in my pajamas all day, and I can't seem to snap out of it. And now I woke up with a cold, so I just want to nap. I haven't done LiveFit since the hotel gym a week ago! I even got pretty new lifting gloves from G-Loves I've been so excited to try out, but they're just collecting dust. My house is a disaster, and I'm all gross and unkempt. I need to snap out of it!! At least I have been mostly eating well, and I'm still logging everything into MFP. Before, I would've given up completely. I was doing so well before, but just can't seem to find that kind of motivation again.

So pretty!

Gah, I'm annoying myself with the pity party! Enough, Brandi!

I think I need to set some goals for next year. I'm a planner, and need goals to stay on track. There's a half I'm planning on doing in May, and I'll be doing most, if not all, of a local running club's winter series. Maybe signing up for it will help me get back on track. New Year's is right around the corner, so it's time to figure out what I want to accomplish next year!

What are some of your goals for next year? Help me out because I'm clueless.

My First Guest Post

I did a little sprucing up yesterday because it was looking way too cluttered for my taste. What do you think? Is everything working? I don't really know what I'm doing, so I just cross my fingers and hope it works.

In other news, my very first guest post is up over at Fitness Unscripted! It's all about the fitbit and why everyone should have one. Please go read it, and then go out and buy yourself a fitbit. :D

Also, there's still time to vote! It doesn't end until February, and you can vote every day until then. I'm in the top 10! Thank you so much to all of you!

Please Vote

I was nominated for Healthline's Best Health Blogs of 2012 contest (thanks Karri!). I have absolutely no chance of winning against such huge names, but it still feels great to play among the big boys! I'd love it if you'd vote for me. Please? You can vote every day until February. Thank you so much for all of your support!! And while you're on the voting page, please be sure to vote for my good friends, In Progress for Good and Babe Before Baby as well! If you don't already follow them, do so!

The easiest way to find me is to look alphabetically. I'm on page 28, number 277. Thanks again!

Custom Phone Case Tutorial

Did Santa bring you a new phone for Christmas? He did for me (a little early)!

I get bored with my cases pretty quickly, but I'm too cheap to buy more until the one I'm using breaks. A long time ago, I came across this tutorial on Pinterest to create your own custom phone cases with a clear case and scrapbook paper. Genius! I love being able to change the look of my case for mere pennies. And it only takes a few minutes and supplies. It's super easy!

Materials

1. Any scrapbook paper, or really any paper will do. I haven't tried it with wrapping paper, but I'd like to next.
2. Pencil
3. Scissors
4. Exacto Knife -- this isn't a dealbreaker, but it makes cutting the camera hole easier. I've used scissors before, and it's a little trickier to cut without ripping it, but it works just fine.
5. Something to cut on. I happen to have a cutting mat, but you don't need one. You just need something under you when cutting the camera hole, so you don't cut a gash into your table.
6. Clear phone case.

This is the case I bought at Best Buy. They had several to choose from. My only requirement was I did not want a silicone case. I bought a clear silicone case from Amazon for my iphone 4, and it eventually yellowed and looked gross. This case is from Agent 18, and is nice and thin so doesn't add bulk to my phone.

1. Trace your phone onto the back of the scrapbook paper. Before you do, take a good look at the pattern and see what you want on your phone and trace there. Don't worry about the bumps the volume buttons make. You'll just disregard them while cutting straight. I also put the clear case over my template to trace the camera hole.

2. Cut out your template.

3. Place your template into your case. It'll probably be a little big, and that's ok. Just gently push it in, and use your nail to lightly crease it. Or if you're a perfectionist, you can take it out and trim it a little. I don't mind it hanging over a tiny bit on the sides, so I don't bother.

4. While your paper is still inside the case, take your exacto knife and very carefully cut out the camera hole. You don't want to damage your case, so BE CAREFUL. Alternately, if you don't have an exacto knife, you can use one side of your scissors to do the same. Or, take the paper out and carefully cut the hole out with scissors.

You probably won't get the hole perfect in the first shot, and that's ok. I like to take the paper out and put it over the case to clean it up. This makes the rough edges go in a bit instead of sticking out of the case. Just keep cutting until you get it as clean as you want.

And that's it! Put the paper back in your case, and the case on your phone. You don't need to adhere it in any way. That's the beauty of this! You can easily take out the paper, and change it up any time you want.

This is the one I did a couple days ago, and posted to instagram. It's what prompted this tutorial. :)

I'm Back!

So good to be home!! We got stuck in a hotel an extra day on the way home thanks to a nasty blizzard. It took us 3 hours to go 100 miles, and the roads were awful, so we stopped for the night a second day. The kids loved it, so it made for an easy time.

Cora and Big Huge Doggy.

While visiting the in-laws, Damon and I took advantage of the free childcare and went to dinner for our 9th wedding anniversary. We went to the place where my mother-in-law threw us a reception a couple months after our wedding since we were married in Antigua.

Anniversary Outfit

We headed for home on Wednesday evening, but only made it about 1.5 hours thanks to the beginning of the storm. There were blizzard warnings everywhere on our route, so we felt it best to stay put.

The next morning, we thought we'd be ok so we headed out once more, but that's the day we stopped after 100 miles because the roads were scary dangerous! We saw so many cars in ditches, and white-knuckled it the whole time.

There's a freeway somewhere under there.

I took advantage of the excellent hotel fitness center, and walked/ran on the treadmill at an 8.0 incline for 35 minutes, and did shoulders & abs according to LiveFit. I stayed on track during vacation thanks to guest passes to my in-laws' gym, and finished week 3!

There was also a Super Target right next door to the hotel, so of course I had to go. We were getting low on snacks and Pull-Ups for Emma, after all. This wasn't any Target either. This is the one I used to drag Damon to when we were dating. Awwww!

Obligatory Target mirror shot.
The roads were MUCH better by yesterday morning, so we pushed it all the way home. We were all so ready to be back!

HOME!!

Happy Holidays!

We're on our way home, but stopped for the night thanks to the gigantic storm in the midwest. It's coming down like crazy in South Dakota/Iowa/Nebraska!! Anyway, just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and post our card this year. :) Have a great one!!

Gone Fishin'

Or to visit the in-laws. Close enough. I'll try and post between now and Christmas, but I'm not making any promises. If I don't get back here, I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday! Let's pray I survive the road trip with the husband and kids. :)

The Real Weigh-In Wednesday

Woohoo!!! I haven't seen 165 probably since right after I had my twins. I'm one of those annoying bitches who lose baby weight, and then some, easily and I got down to about 150 after having them. The weight comes right back on once we get out of the newborn stage and I'm not as stressed. I also updated my Measurements page. I'm down 19.25 inches from the heaviest journal I could find! Woohoo!

I feel so damn good! My goal was to see 165, so I busted my ass to get there. I did LiveFit the 4 days I was supposed to, and have done it 2 of my days already this week. I've also been walking at high inclines on the treadmill as well. I think I mildly strained my calf again, so I've been careful not to overdo it. Unfortunately, we're going to be traveling starting Friday, so the diet's going to take a big hit. My mil said their neighborhood has a nice gym we can use, so at least I'll get to work out, but my inner fat girl will be coming out with a vengeance. The key for me will be to not let her keep control once we're back home.

Weigh-In Wednesday, er, Sunday

Withings scale

Woohoo! I'm back down to my lowest weight from a few weeks ago! I'm down 5lbs in 2 weeks, but really I just lost the weight I'd gained Thanksgiving week and the week before. I finally feel like I'm truly back, and in that good place I was a couple months ago. I will be seeing 150's very soon! I busted my ass all week, never having a day below 10,000 steps on my fitbit.

Woohoo! Only took me 1.5 years.

I had great intentions and wanted to post more often, but we're in the middle of refinancing our house to knock our interest rate by almost half. The appraiser came Thursday, which meant not only scrubbing my 4700sqft house until it shone, but also organize every room and closet. We have two bedrooms in the basement that are pretty much just storage right now, and had things dumped there when we moved in 5.5 years ago, and not touched since. I found some gems from my baby days with Abby, including a notebook detailing my labor by time; a graph paper notebook with a handmade color-coded graph that detailed every minute of Abby's life for MONTHS; AND a binder with sections for notes with times, a feeding log, and typed excerpts from various books showing milestones and dates. I was a CUH-RAZY first-time mom!

Now that my house is the cleanest it's been since I got pregnant with my twins and the appraisal is done, I have time to blog again. LiveFit is going well. I ended up stretching week 1 into two weeks because I got busy, and I'm learning I'm not going as hard as I should. Sure, I'm a little sore after working each body part, but not uncomfortably so. I can feel myself holding back during the workouts, and I definitely need to step it up!

The highlight of my week(s) happened yesterday. A friend and I took the kids to Goodwill, and I found a pair size 8 jeans that I thought of buying, but my 10's had been feeling a bit tight lately so figured I was way out from being able to wear them. My friend convinced me to try them on to at least see how they'd eventually fit, and if they were worth buying. I not only got them on, but ZIPPED! I busted an internal organ, and had some MAJOR muffintop, but they still zipped! I'm hoping to be able to wear them comfortably in a few weeks. At $4.99, I had to buy them and they're now hanging on my closet door to motivate me when I want to slip.

I Ran!

This was my first outside run since I hurt my hip. I felt GREAT! No hip issues whatsoever. I've hardly done much of anything the past two months since the half, and I definitely noticed my endurance has gone way down. The first mile was definitely a struggle. I was huffing and puffing, and only at a 13-minute pace! Oh well, it will come back with time. Overall, though, this was the most enjoyable run since my half.

For me, 40s-50s is perfect for running because I tend to get way too hot. Today, I walked for 10 minutes to warm up in the beginning, and I was ready to take off my fleece by the end of it. It was perfect! Just enough breeze to keep me cool without freezing me. The only downside to running in this time of year is that I'll only get outside on the weekends. It's well past dark by the time Damon gets home from work, and I don't have enough time for a decent run before he goes to work.
