Fitbit, I Love You So

I've had my fitbit for almost 1.5 years now, and I still LOVE it! If you own a fitbit, be sure to friend me there. Mine was the original one that didn't count stairs climbed. It has gotten me off the couch more times than I can count, and the company has some of the best customer service out there! Mine has slowly been chipping in the loop part, and a few weeks ago, a pretty big chunk fell out. I'd heard of people getting theirs replaced by the fitbit people when they've accidentally run it through the washer, so I thought I'd see if they'd hook me up with a new one. It still worked fine, but it was looking a little sad. I filled out the contact form on the site, and attached a picture of mine with the big chunk out of it, not really expecting them to do anything about it. The next morning, I received an email telling me to submit proof of purchase if I still had it, shipping information, and what color I wanted. It also included a link to their warranty policies.

My chipped fitbit

Wait, what? You want me to choose a color?

My original fitbit only came in the teal color. Only the newer "ultra" one that counts stairs climbed also comes in a plum! Clicking the warranty link revealed that it's only covered for 1 year. Surely, that would be the end of it once they saw my proof of purchase. Though I did tell them when I filled out the contact form that I'd bought it back in May, 2011. A couple days after I submitted all the info they wanted, I received an email saying my order had been processed and I should receive it within 5-7 business days. The next day came the shipping email, and I received my new fitbit the following Monday. One week from the time I sent them my original email, I had a brand new fitbit. Not only a new fitbit, but the newer than mine fitbit! I'm only a little disappointed that I didn't know they'd be releasing a brand new model a couple weeks later. Oh well. I still love it!

For those of you who don't know what a fitbit is, let me explain. Essentially, it's a fancy pedometer. You wear it 24 hours a day, and it tracks your steps, calories burned, stairs climbed, distance traveled, and sleep. It's the size of a bluetooth ear thingy, and clips to your pants or bra. Once it's on, you never notice it. It's much more discreet than the ones where you have to wear it on an armband. It comes with a usb charger thing that also syncs the fitbit wirelessly to your computer whenever you're within range. I hear the new ones use bluetooth technology and sync to your phones as well, so you don't need to be near a computer to sync. Very cool!

My favorite thing about it is its syncing capabilities with other apps and sites. Myfitnesspal, in particular. I quickly learned I hated tracking my food in two different places, so I stopped tracking on the fitbit site. Now that they're synced, I just enter my food into MFP and it gets logged on the fitbit site as well. Whenever I log my workouts into mfp, it gets synced with the fitbit, and gets adjusted on the fitbit site too. Some days, I'm a lot more active than others, and I'll get a "fitbit calorie adjustment" on myfitnesspal then. Free exercise calories for just doing my day-to-day stuff! I've slowly been bumping my activity level from sedentary to very active because I learned I'm a lot more active than I thought. All the running around, cooking, and cleaning we do on a daily basis adds up to a much more active lifestyle than we give ourselves credit for!

The fitbit also syncs to my Withings scale, so my weight automatically gets updated on the fitbit site whenever I weigh myself. I love that! I don't have to remember to add it to the fitbit website since it's already there.

As I'm sure you've gathered by now, I'm a gadget/technology nerd. I love my toys. :)

UPDATE: I recently found out about their referral program, so I'd love it if you'd use my referral link to order yours! Just know, this post was 100% NOT SPONSORED AT ALL. I just love my fitbit, and try to talk everyone I know into one so that we can be friends there and we can compare steps. :) Here's the link. Thank you for using it!!

    1. It's so great to see a picture of your day! It's definitely gotten me moving when I didn't want to. You earn badges too, so if I'm close to a new badge, I like to go up and down my stairs at the end of the day until I hit that next level. :)

    1. Yay! The new ones look sturdier, and I love the bluetooth syncing stuff. Plus, I read they're sweatproof and stuff. Though I've never had any issues with either of mine not working.
