Almost Time

Race Day is THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, so I'm now nervous! I've been mostly focusing on tomorrow and how much fun that'll be so I don't completely freak out about the actual race. A friend and I are driving up together around noon, and meeting the rest of our group at the hotel. After we check in and get settled, we'll walk to the expo to get our race packets and check out all the goodies. We'll have a carby pasta dinner downtown, and then go back to the room for some girl time before we attempt to sleep (ha!). I doubt I'll be sleeping much tomorrow night!

Yesterday, it hit me.

The butterflies in my gut. At this point, they're more like huge 'roided up movie butterflies! I'm ready for the race. I know I can do it. But there's still some fear in there. I'm always nervous before a race, no matter the distance, but this one... THIS race, I've trained. I've busted my butt. I've planned. And it's the longest distance I've ever run in a race. All the unknowns are turning me into a Nervous Nelly.

Wish me luck! Also, you can track my progress during the race at Runkeeper if you'd like to follow along. I'm sure it's pretty boring if you're not actually in the race, but my husband and kids love to watch the little icon on the map.

My next post will be a race recap. Holy shit.

  1. Good luck girl! You will rock that half! Can't wait to hear all about it. I'm training for my first half in November and the thought of 13 miles overwhelmes me.

    1. Thanks, Amanda! You can do it! I was terrified of running a half until I ran about 7-8 miles. That's when I started feeling comfortable with the longer distances, and felt ok about the race. Now that it's around the corner, I'm nervous!

  6. You are going to do great! My sis did a 1/2 Marathon earlier this year, trained, never ran up to 13 miles in her training and she did AWESOME. You will be fine! You have a ton of people excited for you and we all want to hear about how you did and what you were feeling. I have yet to do my first 5K but I imagine I will be soo excited just that I finished it! I bet the excitement from a 1/2 would be overwhelming! GOOD LUCK and go get 'em!

  7. I'm too chicken to even do a 5k yet, so I think you are AMAZING for even trying! And I KNOW you can do it! Just remember that your adrenaline will kick in and you'll probably do even better than you expect!

    1. Thanks, Jen! It's supposed to be a perfect day tomorrow. High of 78 and clear, so it'll probably be about 45-50-ish in the morning. That's my sweet spot when it comes to running weather. :)
