Weight Watchers weigh-in was yesterday. Last week, I sadly gained 0.6 pounds, but somehow I managed to lose 4.6 pounds this week to make up for it! This was week 4, so it will probably be the last time I have a big loss like that in a week, but it still felt GOOD! I got “5 lbs. lost” and “5% lost” stickers. My next goal is to lose 10% of my original weight. 7 more pounds to go! When I reach that goal, I get a key chain. I WILL get that key chain next month!

Running has been nonexistent this week. My in-laws are coming Friday, and the twins’ first birthday party is Saturday, so I’ve been cleaning and shopping like a madwoman.  That’s been my exercise this week.

One thing I’m a little disappointed by is the shape of my arms. I carry both babies (about 45lbs. total) up and down our stairs at least a couple times a day. Then there’s the constant lifting of the stroller to get it in and out of the van, and pushing it around with both babies and groceries in tow. I add one of those little baskets they have at grocery stores to each handle and fill them both and the basket underneath the stroller.  Or, I use one of those ginormous double carts when I can find one outside. We typically hit Super Target, so I’ve been able to find one most days.  Abby climbs in that little corner towards the back and I push all three through the store.  Granted, it’s a lot more leisurely than a power walk through the neighborhood, but I should be rewarded at least a little!

I’ve signed up for the shredheads “buddy” program they’ll be doing in August, so I’ll start shredding again. The last time, I did really great the first 10 days, advanced to level 2, did it once and called it quits.  In my defense, I had cancer! That’s so my excuse for everything. The last time I shredded was a few days before my mammogram where they found a lump.  Everything went downhill for a few months after that. I won’t be shredding every day this time because I’m going to continue to run as well, but I am going to do it on my “off” days.  Hopefully, I can lose another 10lbs. before we take off for California right before my 31st birthday in September.  We’re driving so we’ll get there on my birthday.

Another Day, Another Run

I had an awful run Sunday. I ran to the neighborhood across the street, sort of, for something different. I thought my neighborhood was hilly, but it doesn’t compare to this! I ran uphill for more than half a mile. There was no end in sight! Every time I turned a corner, I saw more hill. Finally, I got to a point where I could turn around and fly down the hill. By then, I was exhausted.

Did I mention I still had to run up my own hills to get home?

Yeah. I ended up walking the last half-mile home, and cutting my run short, because I was d.o.n.e. I was surprised at how much of an emotional toll that ginormous hill took on me.  I could’ve continued running at a slower pace, but my brain more than my body decided I couldn’t do more. Don’t get me wrong, I was HURTING by then, but I probably could’ve pushed through it. I let the hills defeat me.

I think I’ll wait to run through that neighborhood again!

Today, I woke up grumpy and in a pissy mood for no reason. Emma’s teething, but she only woke once in the night and about 1/2  an hour early this morning, so it wasn’t due to lack of sleep. PMS maybe? Who knows. All I know is that I had to get out of this house because I was driving myself crazy.

After naptime, I loaded everyone up and went to the gym.  What better way to burn off a bad mood than by leaving the kids with someone else and getting the endorphins pumping! I love that stoned feeling after a run, once my heartrate starts to settle.  I had my best treadmill run yet!

The twins aren’t comfortable being left with someone else yet, so I try to keep my treadmill runs shorter. Sure enough, they told me Emma screamed the entire time until they finally made her a bottle.

Today, I ran 2.88 miles in 34:57 total, including about a 2-minute warmup and cooldown.  With the walking portions in the beginning and end, I averaged 4.94mph. I ran the entire middle at 5.0-5.2, with a couple 5.3 intervals as well! When I started running again a month ago, I could barely run for 2-minute stretches at 4.3! Today, I WALKED at 4.3. I’d originally set it for 4.6, but it was too easy! Running outside in my hilly neighborhood has really helped my endurance.

Even better? I could totally tell I’ve lost weight in the clothes I wore to the gym today!

Seven Pounds

I had my second Weight Watchers weigh-in this morning. I’m down 7.2 lbs. in two weeks!! My goal for this week is to lose two more so I can get my 5% keychain next Saturday. I’m liking the WW points system a lot more than I expected to. I like math. And charts. And statistics. The only way I’ve ever been able to lose weight is if I keep track of everything I eat and use a website like <a href=”">Fit Day</a> to keep track of everything. I love seeing my daily statistics and graphs! WW has a great tracker on their website for points, weight and measurements, activity, and even recipes. I can input all the ingredients and the amount of servings, and it’ll figure out the points for me. I just wish it also gave me the nutritional information too. I’m also keeping track of everything on my phone with an app called Lean Me, but it doesn’t use points. It’s nice to be able to see the actual amount of calories I’m eating.

One thing that does bother me about the points is the calories. Since I’m so heavy, I got 26 points for the day (25 now that I’m in the 170s!). Well, I’m coming in at 1,100-1,200 calories total. Everything I’ve read says not to go under 1200 calories in order to lose weight, so I end up using a bonus point or two on the days I’m under. How few calories are thinner (or older) people eating?! The meeting leader mentioned she only gets 18 points for a day.  I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.

On the exercise front, I can’t believe how much faster I’ve gotten since I started running a month ago! When I started, I could barely run a minute or two. I was at about a 15-minute mile. Now, I run the entire way, typically 35-45 minutes, at 12:45-minute miles. Losing weight will only make me faster because I won’t be carrying around so much bulk.

I’m back

After my whole cancer ordeal this spring, I gained 15 pounds. I’m such a stress/emotional eater that the cancer really took a toll on my weight. Now that it’s all behind me, it’s time to take control once more. I’ve decided I can’t do it on my own. I need the accountability of a group setting, so I’ve joined Weight Watchers. I joined 10 days ago, and have already lost 6 pounds! Unfortunately, I joined the week before the 4th, so I have to wait until this Saturday to get my official weight after my initial meeting. At my first meeting 10 days ago, I weighed 184.2. My heaviest non-pregnant weight ever.

No more!

In addition to Weight Watchers, I’ve also started running again. I used to run a few years ago, but I got a black toenail after running the Bolder Boulder. We moved into our house right after that race, then life just got in the way. A few months after my toe healed, I was pregnant with the twins, so I haven’t run in 2 years. I’d forgotten how much I enjoy it! I’m already seeing great improvements to my times in the few weeks since I started. I’ve decided to run the Race for the Cure in September. That gives me plenty of time to train. I’m already up to running a 5k, so it should be a great race. I’m trying to convince some friends to do it with me so we can create a team. Hopefully!
