Weekly Goals

I've decided the best way for me to stay on track is to start small. Ultimately, I want to get down to about 140-145, but I'm not planning on losing it quickly. Instead of focusing on the big picture, I'm going to set a few weekly goals for myself and focus on the short-term. This way, I'll feel a sense of accomplishment as I achieve my goals every week. I'll post them at the end.

I weighed myself for the first time in maybe a month. I've gained 4 lbs! My starting weight is 162.2. I was so proud of myself for getting into the 150s. As you can see from my measurements, I have no curves! Even after having kids, I don't have hips to speak of. I've been chesty since puberty, and no amount of weight loss has ever changed that, so I don't expect to go down any shirt sizes. I would like to go down one or two jeans sizes, though. I'm currently a 10 or 12. My new favorite jeans are from PacSun, so they're junior sizes. I'm wearing an 11, but got a pair of 9s buttoned and zipped comfortably at the store. They were just a little tight, so I had a serious case of muffin top! I'd love to get down to a 7 again.

Goals for the week:
1. Drink 100 oz. of water a day. I'm breastfeeding, so I should be drinking way more water than I do.

2. Cut back on caffeine. My sister and I are up to grande frappucinos about 3-4x a week. Plus, I have a couple cans of Pepsi a day. Again, I'm breastfeeding so I really shouldn't drink so much caffeine. "Cut back on caffeine" is too abstract. I need numbers to be successful, so I'll say cut back to one can OR one tall frappucino a day. Also, I'm only allowed Starbucks/Seattle's Best twice a week.

3. Eat one vegetable and a fruit a day. French fries don't count! I know I should be eating much more than this, but some days it just doesn't happen. Most days, I just grab something quickly while my sister deals with the screaming babies. Yes they nap, but only for about a half hour at a time. Not nearly enough time to get everything done. Instead of reaching for Halloween candy, I'll try to grab an apple or some grapes.

4. Send the leftover Halloween candy to work with Damon on Monday. Also, DON'T BUY ANY MORE! I'm a sucker for the 75-90% off sales at Target. No more!

5. Get on the treadmill 3x. If Damon doesn't have to work, go to the Tuesday class. My sister and I were doing really well, then Damon started having to work late on Tuesdays so we haven't been in over a month.

That's it. Baby steps. Completely doable. I'll have to think of a little something non-food related to treat myself with if I accomplish every goal.

The Beginning

My friend, Bridgette, decided to start a weightloss challenge, so I've set up this blog to track my progress. The challenge won't start until Thursday, but I couldn't wait to create a shiny new blog! I also blog at Tired Mama, but that's mostly to keep our families up-to-date on our lives. The grandparents love it!

So, me. I had twin girls on August 5, 3 months ago. My husband and I also have an almost 4 year-old daughter. For me, giving birth is actually the best diet. The first time, I gained 30 lbs. and lost 45 pretty quickly. I'd gained 30 lbs. before I got pregnant. By the time I got pregnant again, I'd gained back about 35 lbs. I was at my heaviest ever. I somehow managed to only 23 lbs. while pregnant with twins despite eating everything for 17 weeks (I was very sick until 20 weeks and they were born at 37 weeks). Again, I was down 45 lbs. after a couple months post-partum.

Since then, I've gained back about 5 lbs. and it scares me. I don't want to get that big ever again. My goal is to get down to about 140-145 lbs, which is about 15-20 more lbs. I have no interest in being super skinny; I like to eat too much to not be able to eat what I want. Shortly after Damon and I met, I got down to 130 lbs. I know I can do it again, but I have to be extremely disciplined to lose that much. Maintaining at that weight is too much work too. I'm not the type of person who can cut out all the bad stuff forever. I need to be able to cheat when I want, but I know I can eat a smaller portion instead.

I just want to feel good in my own skin. Not only that, but I want to get off medication. I developed preeclampsia at the end of my first pregnancy, and my blood pressure went back up about a year later after gaining back a bunch of weight. I've been on blood pressure medication for a couple years. My cholesterol was also borderline high at my last couple physicals. I just turned 30 in September! I'm way too young to have these kinds of medical problems. I want to be here for my girls. I want to live to see them become mothers and wives. It's time to make a change.

I'm also nursing my girls, so I want to be more conscious of what I eat for them. They are getting nutrition from what I eat, so I need to think about them when I'm tempted to eat junk. I currently don't make enough milk for both of them, so I supplement with formula. Hopefully, eating well and drinking a ton of water will help increase my supply. Since I'm nursing, I don't plan on going on a strict diet to lose weight quickly. More, I want to change my eating habits and make better choices. Breastfeeding has been a huge help to me in losing the baby weight so quickly, and has kept me from gaining much weight back despite eating like I'm still pregnant.

Tomorrow morning, I'll weigh and measure myself to see where I'm at. I realize this is the worst time of year to start a diet, but my husband, Damon, also just started a weight-loss challenge at work so we can support each other. I'm not going to beat myself up about the holidays. After all, it's just a few days out of the year. I can eat better the other days, so I can eat what I want then.
